Let Your Love Grow®
Planting Kit Directions
Use your Planting Kit to create a natural memorial unique to your pet. Follow these steps for use with:
Memorial gardens
Potted plants
Scattering or spreading in nature
For creating a
Memorial Garden
Step 1: Mix ashes with soil product.
First, open the urn or container for the ashes. The ashes will be sealed in a plastic bag inside.
Next, open the package of Let Your Love Grow soil product.
Gradually pour ashes into package and mix in, little by little. Ashes are safe to handle, however they are powdery so know that there may be dust.
Mix well and seal the package closed.
Step 2: Prepare the garden.
Choose a special place in your garden. Soil mixture is compatible with all plant species and gardens.
If planting a new tree, flower, or shrub, dig hole to required depth (typically twice the size of the planter). Use a shovel to loosen soil in your desired place for ashes. Ensure there is space for plant roots to grow towards the ashes. Do not place ashes directly on plant roots. Ashes will take time to neutralize before nutrients are safe for plants to absorb.
Step 3: Plant ashes.
Open the package and spread ashes into the loosened earth. You may do this with your hands (the soil mixture is safe to handle), pour directly from the package, or use a garden trowel or decorative container. You may also wish to add flower petals or a note on biodegradable paper.
Use your garden soil to cover ashes. Water the area until soil is moist, and wash hands when finished.
For creating a
Potted Plant
Step 1: Choose a planter.
Select one large pot or multiple smaller pots for your memorial plant. Pots must be large enough for the soil mixture, ashes, plant, and additional potting soil.
Our recommended planter sizes for each Planting Kit are:
• Small Pet: 10 Litres - approximately 26x26cm (10x10")
• Medium Pet: 19 Litres - approximately 30x30cm (12x12")
• Large Pet: 26 Litres - approximately 36x36cm (14x14")
• Giant Pet: 38 Litres - approximately 40x36cm (16x14”)
Step 2: Mix ashes with soil product.
First, you will need to open the urn or container for the ashes. The ashes will be sealed in a plastic bag inside.
Next, untie the cotton satchel in the Planting Kit. Remove the inner bag of Let Your Love Grow soil product, and cut open.
Pour half of soil product into the cotton satchel. Gradually add ashes by alternating with layers with soil. Ashes are safe to handle, however they are powdery so know that there may be dust.
Tie the satchel closed, and mix contents by rotating.
Step 3: Plant.
Pour ashes and soil mixture into planter. Cover with potting soil, and place your chosen plant on top. Kit can be used with any species of plant, indoor or outdoor.
Fill remainder of the pot with potting soil. Water plant and follow the usual directions for ongoing care.
For use with
Scattering Ashes
Step 1: Mix ashes with soil product.
First, open the urn or container for the ashes. The ashes will be sealed in a plastic bag inside.
Next, untie the cotton satchel in the Planting Kit. Use scissors to open the inner bag of Let Your Love Grow soil product.
Slowly pour ashes into the clear inner bag. Ashes are safe to handle, however they are powdery so know there may be dust.
Roll inner bag closed, and retie satchel. Rotate the satchel to mix contents.
Step 2: Let it sit.
The mixture needs time to start transforming the ashes before they are scattered in nature. Store the tied satchel at room temperature for three to four months (90 to 120 days).
Step 3: Spread or scatter.
Choose a special place. In Canada, scattering or spreading ashes in permitted on private property, provincial parks, and crown land. Here are some tips on choosing a scattering place.
When you are ready to scatter, open the cotton satchel and inner bag. Gently scoop mixture, and sprinkle on the ground at your chosen location. You may use your hands (the soil mixture is safe to handle), pour from the satchel, or use a garden trowel. A scattering tube or other decorative container can also be used.
Wash hands when finished scattering.
